Course Summary
This specialist tailor made CPCAB accredited qualification is designed to equip practitioners with a detailed understanding of attachment theory and how this can be applied to work with complex relational presentations. The course explores a range of key literature and approaches to develop insight into how attachment-based wounds may appear across a wide array of presenting issues within the therapy room including addiction, eating disorders, suicidality, relationship and sexual issues.
The course offers the opportunity to critically reflect on the role of applying an attachment-informed lens to our client work, along with specific skills and assessment related interventions to support building a strong therapeutic alliance amidst complexity.

Topics Covered
This course will enable counsellors to:
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of Attachment based theories including the works of Bowlby, Ainsworth and contemporary approaches within the field of attachment studies
- Develop a detailed working knowledge of approaches to assessing attachment styles including the AAI, systemic and narrative models
- Understand mentalisation-based and EFT-informed interventions including rupture-repair processes through an attachment lens
- Explore the role of neurobiology and attachment, including arousal regulation, and somatic interventions
- Understand the role of attachment injuries in relation to shame, guilt, and self-compassion
- Explore couples, families, and psychosexual presentations through an attachment lens
- Develop an awareness of culture, power and neurodiversity in the context of attachment theory
- Become familiar with key literature and research in the field of attachment
Entry Requirements
As this is a post qualifying course, you must be a qualified counsellor/ psychotherapist, and a full member of a PSA-registered professional body (e.g., BACP, NCPS, UKCP, etc.); with at least 2 years of post-qualifying experience since completing your core training (e.g. Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling).
You must have also received a minimum of 40hrs of personal therapy during or after your previous qualifying training as a counsellor.

Students will be assessed through a variety of methods, including:
A reflective case study
A research project

On completion of this course, students are eligible to apply for:
- CPCAB Level 5 Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People
- CPCAB Level 6 Certificate in Counselling Supervision
- CPCAB Level 7 Diploma in Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy
- CPCAB Level 5 Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People
- CPCAB Level 6 Certificate in Counselling Supervision
- CPCAB Level 7 Diploma in Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy
Additional Course Requirements
In addition to attending the course, students will be required to fulfil the following requirements:
- Facilitate 30hrs of counselling with clients (in private practice or agency role)
- Attend a minimum of 1.5 hours per month of clinical supervision, aligned with your professional body requirements.
